THE N.Z. SWIMMING CHAMPION SHIPS.

The New Zealand swimming championships were held in the freshwater baths at Timaru on Thursday and Friday. and the gathering was largely attended.

Tn the 220yds championship R. Healey (Wellington) won in 2m. 445. by four yards from Champion (Auckland), Dodge (East Christchurch), being third. Champion’s time was 2m. 48s- and Dodge’s 2m. 50 3-ss. In the 220yds breast stroke Russell (Sydenham), the present holder won by a yard in 3m. 295., beating Truscott’s record of 3m. 40 l-ss. Cook (East Christchurch) was second in 3m. 30 4-55.„ and Bull (Richmond) third in 3m. 41 l-ss.

In the half-mile championship Healey won by ten yards. He put in a great race, his time being 12m. 45 2-ss. This beats Bull’s record of 13m- 26 2-ss. Champion was second in 12m. 51 2-55.. and Manhire (Addington) third in 13m. 44 3-ss.

R. Healey (Wellington) won the 440yds championship in 6m. 8 3-55., Champion (Auckland) being second in 6m. 16 3-ss„ and Dodge (East Christchurch) third in 6m. 18 2-ss. Healey won by 10yds and beat Champion’s record for New Zealand of 6m- 19s. The 100 yards championship resulted. —Ronayne (Wellington), 1;

Champion (Auckland), 2; Dodge (Christchurch), 3. The time, 66 4-55.,

did not beat the New Zealand record of 655. (and standard) by Champion. In the one mile championship Healy (Wellington) was first in 26m. 45 3-55.. Manhire (Addington) second in 27m. 2 5 4-55., and McMillan (Dunedin) third in 27m. 58s. R'ch (Opawa) was the only other starter. Healy won by 80 yards, Manhire being a yard in front of McMillan. The previous New Zealand record by McMi - lan of 28m. 17 l-ss. was beaten by the placed men. Canterbury No. 1 team won the polo championship from Swifts (Wellington).
