THE AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB’S SUMMER MEETING.

THE CONCLUDING DAY OF THE MEETING. The big summer gathering of the Auckland Trotting Club took place on Saturday in fine, although dull, weather. Despite the fact that many visiting sportsmen had departed homewards, the attendance was large, being well above the average. Mr. Marks arranged for the smooth running of the meeting, which proved entirely satisfactory, and it is gratifying to record that there was not a single accident, protest, or inquiry during the day. Mr. O’Connor acted as starter, and Mr. I. Hills as judge, both officials acquitting themselves well. The Garrison Band helped materially to enliven the proceedings during the afternoon. For the eigh" events the sum of £4740 was passed through the totalisator, this making a grand total of £14,838 for the meeting. These figures represent a slight decrease as compared with the corresponding meeting last yar, when the total ran out to However, as the bookmakers fees for the meeting realised the respectable total of £570, the club has no cause for complaint as to the financial returns, while the totrl attendance for the meeting must have easily exceeded any previous record. The sport was resumed on Saturday with the Trial Trot, 1 miles, punters instantly dropping on Minnie B. as a good thing, Queen Anne being well supported. There were ten runners, but none of them could make the least impression on the favourite, who led all the way and won easily by a dozen lengths from Norrington. The latter was second all the way, but could not reach the leader. Queen Anne was a long way off third, follow-

ed by Orakei and Mikado, with Belle Helden last. Seven turned out for the Association Trot, two miles. Albert Edward and Kohine were the popular picks. This proved a race which fairly stirred the crowd to enthusiasm. Royal Albert started to pace the field, and he led past the stand from Albert Edward and Lena G. Agnes B. was in third place at the back, with the two Alberts trotting level. Albert Edward led into the straight, with Kohine and L.tfte Paul next. At the distance the race resolved itself into battle between the two latter, and Little Paul breaking on the post Kohine won amid great excitement by a head. Agnes B. was three lengths off third, followed by Albert Edward, Royal Albert, and Redleaf.

The best field of ponies seen out for many a long day faced Mr. O’Connor in'the New Year Handicap, 4% furlongs, nine going to the post, 'and of these the Soult marc Mahinga was made a pronounced favourite. After some delay at the post, Carmania jumped out very smartly, and, followed by Mahinga and Mistime, led dowfi the back. Then Mahinga dashed past, and showed the way into the straight at a cracking pace. Running it out in good style, the favourite won by a length and a half from Carmania, with Misstime a length off third, followed by Elenore and Peggy Pride, with Lady Ferris last. Woodbury carried most investments in the President’s Trot, two miles, in which nine competed, Bogey led at the outset, but Woodbury, going in good style, was in front a long way from home, and never giving anything else a chance, won easily by a dozen lengths from Le Rosier, who just beat Bogey in the last little bit. Duke C. was a good fourth, followed by Scotia and Robex, with Tableau last. Yet another favourite prevailed in the Park Trot, 1 miles. This was the Wildwood colt, Papanui, a very fine stamp of a horse, who, starting from scratch, soon threaded his way through the field, and won easily by half a dozen lengths from Pukerimu, who just defeated Inaha. Orakei was fourth, Tarpot fifth, and Mikado last. The High Class Trot, one' m.le, attracted ten, of which Princess Ena was most highly thought of. Here, however, backers were astray, for although the .scratch mare trotted well she could not reach old Rosebud, who, taking every advantage of her stare, was in front all the way, and won fairly easily by three lengths from Princess Ena. John Harold was a fair third, and then came Le Rosier and Susie Hue, with Autocrat last. Punters made amends when they dropped on Duke C. as the probable w.nner of the Ward Trot, 1 % miles. Cleveland’s Pride was in front for the bulk of the journey, but he had not pace enough to stall off the favourite in the last half-mile, and the aged son of Duke, getting by, came on and won by two lengths. Gert wa s a similar distance behind Cleveland’s Pride, while 0.Y.0., the only other starter, was a bad last.

The curtain was rung down with the Telegraph Trot, one mile, Irish Molly being made a hot favourite. It was practically no race, for Irish Molly cleared right out from the field, winning with ridiculous ease from Cavalier, after whom came Princess Ena, Waitekauri and Mandarene. The particulars were as follows: —
