FOOTBALL.

THE WALLABIES ON TOUR IN ENGLAND.

The “Wallabies” (Australian amateur football team) suffered their second defeat, when they met Midlands and East Midlands combined. The home team had the better of the game, and won by eight points, the scores being. Midlands, two goals and one try (13 points) to one goal (five points). The game was a fast and even one. During the first half Midlands scored a try, which, however, was unconverted, and in the second spell, by a series of strong attacks, the home team scored two more tries, both of which were converted.

Burge scored a try for the Wallabies, Carmichael converting. The “Wallabies” on Saturday played the Anglo-Welsh team which visited New Zealand, the visitors scoring three goals three tries (24 points) to nil. This should tend to disprove the stupid assertions by some of the An-glo-Welsh team that their defeats in New Zealand were largely due to unfair tactics by their opponents. The fact is they were a poor lot and were beaten by better players.

THE AUSTRALIAN PROFESSIONALS IN ENGLAND.

The match between the Australian team (professionals) and Halifax resulted in a win for the home team, the scores being:—Halifax, three goals two tries (12 points), Australians, one goal two tries (eight points). Halifax secured a goal in the second half from penalties due by their opponents for rough play.
