NAPIER, September 2. The following foaling took place at Longlands this week: —Float (Captain Webb-Bonnie Idea), a filly to Merriwee; the new arrival is therefore full sister to Cork. Amongst the new colours registered this season are those of Mr Paul Hunter whose racing uniform is listed as blue jacket and red cap. Mr R. Smyth of Wairoa owns a three-year-old full brother to Tongimoana whom he has christened Rangikapua. The colt is a big chap and still appears to be growing. The Stepniak Royal Plumes yearling filly that fell to the nod of Mr H. Gaisford at the Stead dispersal sale has arrived safe and sound at Oringi station and will study under J. Webster. The latter has just finished handling a yearling filly by Waipawa out of Snuffer. The Wairoa country racing club are increasing the stakes for their next annual venture by 30 sovs. which means that they will distribute £470 in prize money next 'January. Dexterous, who is now dominciled at Petane, is being got ready for the fray. Torpedos daughter will probably make her reappearance at the annual fixture of the Petane hack racing club.

There is another new local aspirant for training honors. I refer to B. McCormack of Hastings, who is going to try and get going at the business. Though comparatively new at the game he possesses several recommendations from owners and trainers who state that he is a capable man with horses and from his experiences with the equines both in and out of the saddle should prove a success in his new associations. The annual meeting of the Dannervirke Jockey Club was held at the Club Hotel Dannervirke yesterday evening. There was a large attendance of members. Mr. R. N. Blakeston presided and the annual report and balance sheet were read and adopted. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: — President, Mr. Geo. Hunter; Vicepresidents, Messrs. G. G. Lloyd and R. M. Blakeston; treasurer, Mr. C. Baddeley; auditor, Mr. J. J. Patterson; committee, Messrs. R. Roarke, G. Cork and Manahi Paewai; trustees, Messrs. Gordon Lloyd, W. Hunter and C. Baddeley. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr. J. S. Freeman the Secretary, for his services in obtaining an additional permit for holding a spring meeting. A discussion took place with reference to increasing the subscription of members consequent upon the two days racing but no action was taken The balance sheet showed a credit balance at the Bank of £491 17s 6d and a Balance of assets over liabilities of £934 19s 6d. The assets of the club have increased from £733 to £934.

At the annual meeting of the Wairoa Racing Clubs the secretary Mr. W. G. Nightingale was voted a bonus of £2O. Several members speaking in warm terms of praise of the secretary’s excellent work in connection with the annual race meeting.
