STEPPING UPWARDS.
One Oi the latest aspirants to fame in London is Miss A exandra Carlisle, who seems to be rapidly climbing upwards in her profession. Miss Carlisle’s Portia in Mr Tree’s forthcoming production of “The Merchant of Venice” at His Majesty’s will be watched with interest (says a home paper). The London stage is none too rich in young leading ladies, and. though Miss Carlisle has not much experience behind her, none will grudge her the rapid rise she has achieved. Her first appearance, away from an unimportant part she played in musical comedy was made early in 1906, with Mr Nat Goodwin, at the Shaftesbury. Then came her success in “The Morals of Marcus,” followed by her work with Mr Cyril Maude, whose, company sh? now leaves to ioin Mr Tree.
