The N.Z. Power Boat Assoc.ations races on Saturday should prove inter esting. Every effort is to be made to secure large entries. # * * * Grey Witch is to run speed trials on Saturday under her new 120 h.p. engine. Launch owners are very curi ous as to what she will do. * * * Motor launch races are not infrequently held up the Whau River and Lucas' Creek way, but residents never send any particulars along, so results cannot be given. » * * * The cutter Ariki sailed last Thurs day for the Bay of P.enty for a week’s cruise. * * * * The cruising launch Karoro left on Thursday evening for the Bay of Islands, and is due back to-day. • • The big yawl Heartsease was away for the Easter holidays cruising down to the Great Barrier. ;J; * * * There was quite a fleet of yachts at Kawau on Good Friday, having dropped in for the regatta. Secretary H. T. Grubb courteously forwards me a card of invitation for the final “At Home” of the North Shore Rowing Club, which takes place on Saturday. Trial fours will be rowed for Vice-president A. Kohn’s gold medals. - * * ♦ The weather spoilt the regatta at Awaroa Bay on Monday. There were a great many yachts in the bay, and the s.s. Aupouri took a large number of spectators down. A strong nor’easter and rain ruined what would have proved an enjoyable fixture. sje * * It came on very thick on Monday afternoon, when most of the yachts had to return to port, while there was quite a nasty sea running outside. Heavy guns were constant’y booming from Forts Cautley, Takapuna, Victoria, and the Bastion, while all night long searchlights were flashing up and down the harbour entrance.
