A BIG SUCCESS BY THE NORTH SHORE YACHT CLUB.
There have been few, if any, prettier races on the Waitemata than the North Shore Yacht Club’s handicap on Saturday. The fleet was an immense one, no less than thirty-five vessels competing for the Dunning Cup. The competitors were: —Thistle, scratch; Wairere, scratch; Emerald, 3m.; Hilda, Bm.; Okere, Seagull, 10m.; Maru, 12m.; Doreen, Mabel, 15m.; Rosina, 16m.; Waitangi, 17m.; Wanderer, 19m.; Valdora, 20m.; Ranee, 20m.; Kamo, 22m.; Eona, 25m.; Hilda, 26m.; Hetty, 26m.; Bell Bird, 31m.; Encounter, 32m.; Orangi, 35m.; Mei, 39m.; Phyllis, 40m.; Rawhiti, 40m.; Merlin, 41m.; Daphne, 44m.; Bronzewing, 50m.; Boadicea, 50m.; Countess, 58m.; Lola, 59m.; Estrella, 60m.; Norma, .60m.; Ailsa, 60m.; Ruia, 68m.; Ika, 75m. Emerald took the lead in the early stages, followed by Wairere and Thistle. At Hobson’s Bay Wairere had gone to the front, but at Queenstreet Wharf Thistle led the squadron, never afterwards being headed. Thistle won by 70 seconds from Wairere, with Doreen 30 seconds behind. Emerald was fourth.
