THE NORTH SHORE YACHT CLUB.

The members of the North Shore Yacht Club are nothing if not enthusiastic. As the time came on for starting the cruising race to Howick on Saturday, rain fell in torrents, but this did not prevent twenty-five boats starting in the four classes. The wind was very light from the south-west, and this gave a lead all the way, a few even setting spinnakers over the first part of the course. Although there were four classes, the boats were sent off in two sections, and some good racing was shown. In Class I. Thistle (4%min.) beat May Belle (15min.) by 55sec., with Yum Yum third. In Class 11. Emerald (scratch) beat Kamo (12m.) by 75sec., with Hilda third. Merlin (Bmin.) won the Class 111. event by 66sec. from Daphne (Bmin), with Mei third. In Class IV. Rhona (16min.) won on time by sm. 38sec. from Bronzewing (17%min.), with Ethel third. A concert was held in the Howick Hall in the evening.

A good fleet turned out for the Manukau Yacht Club’s race on Saturday, this being the eighth of the series. Mahinga (36m.) won rather easily from Mana (51m.), with Heather (scratch), Manola (scratch), Wairere (2m.), and Edith (7m.) following in that order. The North Shore Yacht Club will sail a race on Saturday for Mr. Dunnett’s cup and other prizes. A very large fleet is expected to start. * * $ » The big yawl Viking (Commodore Bloomfield) is away on a cruise to the Great Barrier. * ♦ • • Ngatira has been away on a Northern cruise, when a good deal of 'bad weather was met with. * * * ♦ It blew very fresh from the south on Sunday morning, but died away as the afternoon drew on when the yachts were making their way home. One or two boats were driven ashore at Stanley Bay, the double boat being one of the victims. I have to thank Mr. C. R.
