Comparatively few people realise, we think, when they see the familiar trademark of Barclay, Perkins, and Co., Limited, how closely the great lexicographer, Dr Johnson, was ponnected with the earlier fortunes of this, ce ebrated brewery. As executor to the will of Ralph Thrale, it was his duty to assist John Perkins, Mr Thrale’s able manager, which he did with such good effect that he not only found a buyer for the business in Robert Barclay, but perpetrated that immortal distich anent the potentia’ity of growing rich beyond the dreams of avarice.

Johnson constantly attended the brewery and tasted its excellent beer, the chair in which he sat being still shown to visitors to the establishment.—“ Star.”
