METHYLATED SPIRITS.

THE NEW REGULATIONS. The full regulations concerning the manufacture, Use, and sale of methylated spirits, in accordance with the Act of last session, have been gazetted. They include the fol owing provisionsNo Spirits shall be metHyla'ed which are of a lower strength than 50 per cent, overproof. No mineral naphtha or wood naphtha shall be used for the purpose of niethy’ation which have not been reported on by the chemical exper; to the Customs Department, and approved by the Secretary of Customs. Samp es of wood naphtha or mineral naphtha to be submitted for apprdyal must be drawn and sealed in the ■presence of an officer of Customs ; the vessels containing the naphiha must also be Sealed prior to delivery from Customs control. 'Samples must not be less in quantity than ppe-ba f pint, and must bear on the label the marks and numbers of the packages of importation, the name of the country of origin, and the initials of the officer in whose presence they were drawn. No wqpd naphtha shall be approved which is of a less strength'than 60 d.p. by Sikes’ hydrometer, and which is not sufficiently impure to impart to rectified spirit, to which it has been added in the proportion ’of ope-nipfb °F V? e bu\k of such rectified spirit, such nausebusness as will, in the opinion of the chemical expert, render it incapable of being used as a beverage or oF being mixed with potable spirits by any kind without rendering them unfit for human consumption.
