ALIDA LOMAN CONCERTS.

Herr Benno Scherek has engaged Madame A’ida Loman, a famous lyric soprano from Amsterdam, for an Australasian concert tour, which is to begin in Auckland at His Majesty’s Theatre on Monday, October 7. Madame Loman, though still young, -is generally recognised as be ng Holland’s representative lyric and oratorio soprano, and has just concluded a most successful concert tour through Java and the East, and she comes here in the very prime of her popularity. Her fresh and youthful Voice, judging from reports of her concerts, should prove a special attraction to Australian and New: Zealand audiences who rarely hear great, singers while their vo’ces are still youthful; Madame Loman’s programmes are selected from the most popular and representative specimens of the song literature of various nations, and she sings them in their original language, notab’y English, French, Italian, German and Dutch. To support Madame Loman throughout the tour Herr Scherek has engaged Mdlle. Teres’ta Carreno-Tagliapietra, solo pianist, and Mr. Eustace Blois, tenor, while Herr Scherek himself will- be the accompanist. 'Mdlle. Carreno-Tagliapie-tra is a. daughter of the famous pianist whom Herr Scherek introduced to this country, and Mr. Eustace Blois, the possessor of a beautiful' tenor vo : ce, comes here fresh from his studies with Santley in London, Bouhy in Paris, and various prominent teachers in Italy and Germany. With popu’ar programmes and prices the success of the tour seems certain.

Charley Macmahon is now in Sydney completing a big move in an exciting cinematograph picture, with al! the necessary Australian colour and surroundings to be in keeping. The subject is a splendid one, and, shall we give it away? Yes. It is Rolf Boldrewood’s “Robbery Under Arms!” Let Austra’asia be on the qui vive, for we prophesy a big boom when it faces the footlights—upwards of 300 are engaged in : ts production.
