Particulars are to hand of the Ardennas circuit motor race, which is annually held in Belgium and ranks as one of the most important European motor contests of the year. This year’s event resulted in a remarkable race, only 79 seconds separating the driving times of the first four cars over a course of 372 miles. Twentythree cars started. The finish was the closest yet witnessed in any great road race, the winning car—a Minerva driven by Moor-Brabazon — flying across the line with only 27 seconds to spare from Keelheven; whilst the Hon. Lee Guinness, who finished third, was only a minute further behind. The winner’s time was 6hr. 14min. 2 2-ssec., equal to an average speed of 59% miles on Hour. The race resulted in a great triumph for Minerva cars, as out of four representatives they finished first, second, third and sixth. British drivers for the first time for some years scored a big success, Moore-Brabazon, the Hon. Lee Guinness and W. Wright (sixth) carrying off the honours of the race. T. Robl, the crack pace follower, who raced in Australia a few seasons back, competed, but did not finish the course. Two days later a second Belgian contest was held over a different course, the victor being Baron de Caters (Mercedes), with the Hon. Lee Guinness, this time on a Darracq, again filling second place, only 84 seconds behind the winner, with Jenatzy (Mercedes) third. The first and second cars were Dunlop-shod. The second race took the winner 6hr 29min 10 2-ssec to negotiate the 369 miles, equal to an average speed of "57 miles an hour.

Charles Jarrott, the well-known English motorist, won this event in 1903, and the British sportsman, the Hon. Lee Guinness, had distinctly hard luck in not following in his footsteps, for in both races he led by a considerable margin up to the last lap, only to lose through trivial delays when both events were practically in his grasp.

The latest word from America is that the Victorian rider, A. J. Clark, who has developed into one of the fastest riders in America, is still riding wonderfully well in Salt Lake City (U.S.A.), his latest success being in a five miles (tandem-paced) match with Floyd MacFarland, the Australian winning easily. When the mail left, Clark had won more races and money than any other rider on the American circuit, Frank Kramer, the American champion, being second. That Clark has improved out of all knowledge is evident from his best times in America, which include three world’s records, viz., half-mile in 53 3-55.; two miles in 3m. 47 l-55., and tied with the world’s best for the quarter-mile in 28 4-ss. The American press now places the Austral Wheel Race winner of 1904 on an equal footing with Kramer, Lawson and Friol, three of the fastest sprinters in the world.

The Dunlop Rubber Co. has just issued one of the finest and most beautiful sets of artistic postcards yet seen in the Commonwealth. The set comprises four different types of Australian girls’ heads by the Victorian artist, Mr. J. Somers, printed in colours, the whole production being Australian. As a sample of artistic postcards, nothing better has yet been seen in Australia, and they will form a welcome addition to any collection. A set will be posted to any of our readers by the Dunlop Rubber Co., 121 Worcester-street, Christchurch, on receipt of two penny stamps. An early application is necessary to ensure obtaining a set of these beautiful cards; which are in no way disfigured by advertisement, for the issue is limited.
