AUCKLAND ATHLETIC CLUB'S GASLIGHT SPORTS. The Auckland Athletic Club ran another 75 yards Novice Handicap last Wednesday evening. The night was beautifully fine, and the attendance in consequence was above the .’’average. The racing was also ex- ■- tremely good, a large number of .5 dead heats being run during the v evening. 205 runners had nominated, and of these 178 accepted their handicaps and faced the starter. The final was a magnificent race, and in the first run resulted in a dead heat between > Mclnarney, Evans, and A. Tate, with the fourth

and fifth men not a foot away. The three dead-heaters ran off, the final placings being: — J. Mclnarney, yds 1 A- Evans, 9yds 2 A. Tate, ,9%yds 3 C. Humphries, 9yds 4 E. Williams, yds 5 Time for dead heat, 7 2-ssecs. Time for run off, 7 3-ssecs. The meeting was as well managed as usual, speculation being brisk during the evening. The Club intend having a Ladies’ Selection Competition on Labour Day evening, and will present to the lady who selects the winner of that Handicap the choice of three handsome gold bracelets.
