the McINTYRE BUSINESS.

Last week considerable surprise was occasioned, when it became known that all was not quite right in connection with the judging of some of the exhibits at the late exhibition. This surprise became more marked, and many unpleasant rumours arose, when the news became public that Mr D. C. Mclntyre, the superintendent of awards, had left the colony very quietly under the name of Mr Meek, as a

steerage passenger by the Turakina from Wellington to London. No doubt McIntyre assumed that his new name would fit his state of mind. Then further news added that it was intended to bring Mr Mclntyre Meek back from Monte Video, at which port the Turakina is to call. It now appears that the public are not to be treated to a washing of the Judging dirty linen, as latest reports state that it is likely that the warrant issued against D. C. Mclntyre, ex-director of exhibits ot the International Exhibition, will be withdrawn. The complainant in the case informed a reporter that he has decided not to go on with the case. He has been led to this decision on account of the lack of encouragement received from men who have had transactions with Mclntyre. They promised that they would assist him financially, and in other directions but, now he says, they decline to do anything, 3'hehJ withdrawn from the proceedings. If there is strong evidence aga Mclntyre, of course, the police will take the matter in hand on their own account. Up to the present time, however, the po ice inquiries have not been concluded. A detective is making investigations into the matter, and his report has not yet been received by the authorities. If the eyi dence is not sufficiently strong, the police also will decline to take further action. From the aspect of the cas ® a * P fXw’ed is likely that this course will be followed.
