WELLINGTON.

WELLINGTON, March 20. Owing to the small number of North Island horses engaged in the C.J.C. Easter events,' less local interest than usual is being taken in the meetings. The Feilding Jockey Club’s meeting will attract most of the local racegoers who hitherto have taken a run South to the C..J.C. Autumn Meeting. Mr. Fred Martin, a popular local sport, who has for many years been associated with racing, and who will be remembered as having won the Wellington Cup with Retina, z had a well-deserved win at Napier Park with his horse Moata. Mr. Martin is reported to have landed some good bets over the double annexed by the erratic son of Daunt. The Masterton Autumn Meeting, which opens on Thursday should provide some good racing. Mr. Pollock has induced capital fields to pay acceptances. The Gisborne contingent —Black Reynard, Montigo, Faro, Gaiety and Te Arai —should make a bold bid for victory as each seem equitably weighted. Prosser’s team will consist of Kukuj Maui,. Devonia and William, whilst W. Davis takes Armament, Seaman, Landwern and Ancycle. Given fine weather the meeting should be a success. Betting on the C.J.C. Easter and Autumn Handicaps is fairly brisk. The Yaldhurst pair, Isolt and Munjeet, are most in demand for the Easter, whilst Truce, Pink ’Un and Seal Rock are most favoured for the Autumn Handicap.
