GREAT NORTHERN BREWERY EMPLOYEES.
The Great Northern Brewery employees held their annual picnic and sports at Squadron Bay, Wa-heke, on Saturday. The weather proved just the thing for a picnic, and everything went off splendidly. The sports proved interesting, and there were some good finishes. Mr. Syd. Somerfield held the pistol, while Messrs. Luckie, Franklin and Brewin officiated at the tapes. On the voyage home Mr. John Mowbray, the managing director, handed out the prizes. The following were the results: —
Swimming Race, 50yds: H. McCullough 1, J. Smith 2, E. Lynch 3. IOOYds Handicap: L. Temperton 1, E. E. Harvey 2, H. Ellis 3. 75Yds Handicap (over 35): F. Weir 1, J. Hedley 2, J. Homan 3. One Mile Walk Handicap: R. A. Armstrong 1, V. Brown 2, E. Curtis 3. 75Yds Handicap (under 35): W. Shaw 1, W. Rose 2. H. Ellis 3. Boys’ Race, 100yds: A. Temperton 1, A. Hendry 2, Barrett 3. Sack Race: F. Brewin 1, W. Shaw 2, A. Temperton 3. Manx Race: Smith and Barrett 1, Lynch and Temper ton 2. Steeplechase: A. Temperton 1, Barrett 2, H. McCullough 3. Great Northern Brewery Departmental Shield, 450yds relay race: Brewhouse 1, Office 2, Wine and Spirit Department 3. Points Cup: This was won by A. Temperton.
