EFFICIENT POLICE FORCE.

In conversation with a Christchurch “Press” reporter, Mr W. Dinnie, Commissioner of the New Zealand Police, stated that the instruction classes for the police started by him in the four centres some time ago are now in full swing, and it is expected that the examinations to be held soon will show gratifying results. The new system of appointing a station sergeant in each of the cities has proved an unqualified success, and makes for the better supervision of the men whilst relieving sub-inspectors of much irksome routine work. “The effect has been,” Mr Dinnie said, “to bring into the light a few more delinquents —but only for trivial offences — and that is just what I want. I may say that I consider the police force of New Zealand to be as efficient as any force I know.”
