Men’s foursomes were played on the Auckland Golf Links on Saturday, the winners turning up in Dr. Gordon and E. Horton, with the good net score of 86. In the junior competition the Misses Nora Gorrie and Bramwell tied with 9 down. * * * * The championship meeting of the Auckland Ladies’ Golf Club is being played this week at Cornwall Park. * * * * The competition for the Fry Challenge Cup will take place on September 1. * * * * In the international golf match between Scotland and England, which opened the amateur golf championship meeting at Hoylake on May 19th, Scotland gained her fourth victory in the event’s five years’ history, England’s sole success being gained in 1903, when she obtained the advantage by only one point. On the morning round England led by 4 matches to 3 and 16 holes to 5, but so extraordinary a turn did the match take in the afternoon that Scotland finally , won by 7 points to 2 —the easiest victory in the annals of the contest. Play was, as usual, over 36 holes, each individual

match counting a point, as in every former contest. The teams were nine aside. During the game between C. M. Cocks and F. Musgrave, in the Victorian Club Billiard Tournament, a bet of £lOO to £1 was laid on Mr Cocks. His opponent made a break of 29 towards the close of the game, and won.

The great biEiard tournament that took place in New York recently for the championship of the word, at an iBin. baulkline, resulted in a win for George F. Slosson, who pulled off five of the six games played. George Sutton, of Chicago, and the veteran Jake Schaefer tied for second with four wins apiece, but in the play-off Schaefer was beaten easily. Willie Hoppe, the young champion, and Louis Cure, of Paris, each won three games ; J. Cutler, of Boston, two games; and A. Morningstar, of St. Louis, one game.
