AQUATICS,
On Thursday last the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron held a Prize Night, this, as usual, taking the form of a smoke concert. Members and friends mustered in full force, the guest of the evening being the sailor lecturer, Mr. Frank Bullen, whose short address and songs were much appreciated, Messrs. George, Whitson, Phillipson, Battley, Lonergan, and others all assisted with pleasing items. Commodore Murdoch was in the chair, and distributed the prizes won during the season, which were
as follows: —Cruising Handicap Race, 32ft: First prize, Moana (Mr. A. Seccombe) ; second, Thelma (Messrs. Jagger Bros). First Cruising Race, under 32ft: Ngatira (Mr. J. Frater); second, Waireke (Mr. Sutherland). Power-boat Championship: Togo (Mr. R. Spinks). First Ocean Yacht Race: First prize, Moana (Mr. A. Seccombe) ; second, Thistle (Mr. F. E. Jackson); third, Thelma (Messrs. Jagger Bros). Second Cruising Race: First prize, Ariki (Mr. C. E. Horton); second, Emerald (Mr. A. Braund); third, Thistle (Mr. F. E. Jackson). Yachts, 26ft, tuck stern: First prize, Emerald (Mr. A. Braund). Power Boats, Handicap: First prize, Union (Mr. R. Spinks); second, Togo (Mr. R. Spinks), Ocean Yacht Race: First prize, Moana (Mr. A. Seccombe). Power Boats, Cruisers: First prize, Blue Bell (Messrs. Bailey
and Lowe); second, Union (Mr. R. Spinks). Third Cruising Race: First prize, Moana (Mr. A. Seccombe); second, Ariki (Mr. C. E. Horton); third, Ida (Mr. D. Murdoch). * * * * I have to thank Ml A. Quin, hon. secretary to the West End Rowing Club, for ticket of invitation to the West End Rowing Club’s prize night. The function will be held on Friday evening at the boathouse, Herne Bay, when Mr. T. Peacock will occupy the chair. The prizes won during the season will be presented and a musical programme gone through.
