COURSING.

(By

“The Judge.”)

I learn from Mr. Tapper, hon. secretary of the North New Zealand Coursing Club, that a rough stand has been erected on the club’s new enclosure at Otahuhu. Also a numbei of improvements have been effected, and when quite completed the ground should be a very up-to-date one. I hear a new and improved judge s chair has been built, which will surely be good news to that official, for formerly his seat was a somewhat precarious one. Also it is well to note that a number of strong hares have been purchased. Those already on the ground are perfect warriors, and as everything possible is being done for their comfort, it is expected that kills will be very few and far between.

Owing to a shortage of hares there was a big division at the Dunedin Coursing Club’s meeting. The Otago Champion Stakes was divided by Prevention, Merry Boy, and Best Blend, the latter a Sydney bitch by Braddon’s 810t —Bloomer. The Maiden Stakes was divided between Other Days, Watermark, Pleasant, Dave and Shrubb.

The Sydney trainer Greg Keighery has brought over to Christchurch Jack of Diamonds, a fourth season dog by Kilmainham —Tarana’s Pride; Diamond Aurum, second season, by Gold Link —Ace of Diamonds; and Nine of Diamonds, a puppy by Duke Macpherson—Ace of Diamonds.
