TROTTNG.

AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB’S

AUTUMN MEETING.

Next Saturday the Auckland Trotting Club will make a commencement with the autumn meeting, and this will be continued on the following Wednesday and Saturday. It is some time since we had a trotting meeting in Auckland, so that the coming fixture is being eagerly looked forward to by lovers of the harness horse. There can be no doubt that the sport of trotting is making steady headway in public estimation, and each meeting shows an increased attendance. Thanks to the vigilance of the stewards, there is little to be seen nowadays of the crooked running which at one time was such a blot upon the sport, and which for a time marred its popularity. The stewards have shown that they will not tolerate anything of the kind, and the result has been better and purer sport. The programme to be gone through on Saturday is a particularly good one, and as it is only reasonable to expect a large attendance, the Electric Tramways Company will put on a number of extra cars. As these deliver one right at the gates of Alexandra Park there should be no difficulty in getting out to the ground. Mr. Mark, the secretary, being an experienced hand at the game, may be trusted to have everything possible done that will help the success of the meeting, and reinsmen should be in for a pleasant afternoon’s sport. As the acceptances do not close until after we go to press, lam unable to make any selections of likely winners. The following are the handicaps: —
