Before taking over the Commercial he was manager of the Paeroa Brewery, while previous co that he ran a large tobacconist and hairdressing establishment in Paeroa. He has always taken a keen interest in sport of every kind, and has .worked hard on the local Racing Club Committee, football, bowling, etc., have also received his support at all times.
