SOUTH CANTERBURY JO. SPRING MEETINGFIRST DAY. The spring meeting of the above club was commenced on Thursday in beautiful weather. The racing was very good. The sum of £2893 was put through the totalisator, as against £1970 for the last meeting. The following were the results: — Summeb Handicap.—Boscastle 9.0,1; Balsam 7.3, 2; Harvest 8.5, 3. Other starters—Canada, 8.11; Stepaside, 8.3: Radium, 7.9; Narragerie. Dividends, £7 and £5 10s. Timaru Handicap.-Crichton 8.2, 1; 1 irole 8.0, 2; Koputai 7.7, 3- AU started.. Won comfortably. Dividends. £4 4s and £1 Is. Back Race —Czarevna 8.0, 1; Buccleuch 8.0, 2; Norman 8.0, 3. Won by a head. Dividends, £2 8s and £1 10s. Fke’ident’S Weltbb Handicap.—Antigone 8.6. 1 ; Thunderer 8.5, 2; Quickfire 8.5, 3. Scratched—Nor’wester. Won easily. Dividends, £8 16s and £7 18s. Handicap Tbot.—Woodbury 20s, 1; Lizzie Bheg 225, 2 ; John Brown, 3. Dividends, £4 i 8 and £ l 6s. Waitaki Handicap.—Bombastes 10.13, 1; Bouncing Bob 8.7, 2; Patuna 10 3, 3.
