From all accounts there are several very fast two-year-olds in training this seasort (writes “The Possible’’ in the “Canterbury Times’’). Already we have seen two first-class juveniles in Lord Elmo and Sal Tasker, and I hear that there are .quite a'f number of chanw picns still to make their first appearance. A prominent trainer informed me a few davs ago that he knew of three that might be expected to get to Ihe neighbourhood of 2min 30sec before the close cf the season.

A meeting of the Trotting Horse Breeders’ Owners’ and Trainers’ Associate m was held at the Cafe de Paris on Thursday night (says the “Canterbury Times’’). Mr L. Wilson presided, and there was an attendance of about twenty persons interested in the movement. Mr I . Wilson’ was elected president, Mr C. L. Russell secretary, and

Mr F. Freeman treasurer. The acting committee, appointed at an earlier meeting, was empowered to draw up rules for submission at the meeting to Le held next month. Considerable interest is being taken in trotting circles in this Association. The originators of the body state that they do not wish to act in any spirit of antagonism towards the cluls, their sole object being to assist in improving the sport by acting in harmony with the authorities. « * * •• At Memphis, Tenn., on November 11, Lou Dillon smashed the world’s unpaced mile trotting record at the Driving l ark by completing a mile in 2:01. The fcr.. er unpaced record, 2:013, was held jointly by Lou Dillon and Major Delmar. Lou Dillon was driven by Millard Sand.rs, her trainer, and was accompanied by a runner at the side (says the “Breeder and Sportsman’’). The weather conditions were not the best, the day being cold and disagreeable. After scoring twice, the word was given The little mare stepped the first quarter in 30 seconds flat. When straightened do..n the back stretch Sanders called on her for a faster effort, and the half-mile post was passed in 59=?. The runner challenged the mare in turn for home, and she passed the threequarters post in 1 :30. When well lengthened out for the flight to the wire, Lou Dillon slightly faltered, but passed the judge’s stand in 2:01. Both horse and driver, upon their return to the stand, recived the plaudits of those present.

According to the “Sporting and Dramatic i.ews,” it is rather remarkable that although trotting is at a very low ebb in victoria, Melbourne is still considered the best market for high-class blotters, 'as higher prices arei realised here tl an would obtain in any other part of Australasia. Last week Mr J. Pettie, of New Zealand, sold privately to Mr J. B. Zander, the owner of Emulacor, the two American mares Lottie Derby and Ruby Wilkes, at a reported price of £525. Mr Zander also has sold a three-year-old colt by Emulator for £lso' to a Sydney sportsman.
