CAMBRIA PARK STUD.

THE BROOD MARES. When at Cambria Park recently I enjoyed a very pleasant stroll around the property, and Mr Price very kindly supplied me with all particulars regarding the seventeen mares for sale after the yearlings on January -1 next, and I made Hie following notes, which tna\ be useful to intending buyers : — VERIN GL A is nineteen years old and has missed to the horse for several years. She has this year been put to Eton, and with the aid of the Cedes impregnator is believed to have held. Being by ( oldsbrough from Mabel, by imported 31 ilJionaire —Varroville she belongs to the No. 4 family, and a foal from her should be valuable. OUR LADY is a dark brown or black mare by Simmer —Lady Agnes, by Neckersgat—Peradventure (imp.), by Adven-

turer —3langanese, three years old and served by Eton. She is medium size and shows a lot of quality. THE DRUDGE, a haff-sister (by Nelson) to that great horse The Workman, is a lengthy chestnut and only six years old. She is served by Eton, and should be the dam of winners.

SAPPHO, by St. I.eger-Brassolis, by Panic, is the dam of the speedy Austa-’-litz. She is also closely related to La Gloria, Nonette, etc. She is a line roomy mare and shows lots of quality ; foah d 1893, served bv Eton.

ETONA, by Castor —Lady. Walmsley (sister to Carbine), is a beautifully bred young mare, foaled 1898. and has a very fine colt foal at foot by imported Cyrcnian and has been served bv Soult.

GWENDOLINE (1897) is another very fine young mare and the dam of Gweniad, who is undoubtedly possessed of great pace. Pv Soult— The Shelah. a daughter of Allanah, by M.isket —Rosalie, Gwendoline- has great blood for a brood mare and has visited Eton. She was not served last’ year.

IRMA (1889) bv Ner-'sg rt perhaos, by Gang Forward —Peradventlire, is the

dam of two useful performers n Lock and Cygnet. She comes of the same family as Guesswork, Surmise, korbassi. Conclusion, etc., all winners. She has a fine colt by Eton at foot and has visited Eton again. HESTIA (1888) is a rare stamp of brood mare ; great length and pknty of bone added to a great p< digi t e should ensure the* production < f a great racehorse when mated with the horse that nicks with her blood. She has a wellgrown and very handsome chestnut _ colt at foot by Cynnian and has visited Soult. She is' by Grtnhnastcr from Wildfire (imp.), by Wild Oats (i np.) from Dynamite, by Musket —Airs Waller, bv Ring Tom. EBINE (1892) has unfortunately lost her foal. She is the dam cf a promising colt in Hiro and is a well bred young mare, being closely related to Abercorn through both sire and dam and has be: n served by Eton. MELODIA (1889). to use a much-hae <- neyed phrase, is one of the gems of the New Zealand Stud Book. Sh * is full

sister to that great horse Melos, also to Melodious, the dam of Wallace, etc. Melodia is the dam of Melodeon. Savoury, Cymbal, etc., all winners ; served by Eton. She is sure to command attention when led into the ring. SI1jK(1888). by Grandmaster —( hrysophase, by Rapid Pay—Chrysolite. by Stockwell, is a rare bred one. She has a filly by Eton and served again by him. 'Phis mare is the dam of Cyrus, winner of several races, including the Eeilding (’up, one and a-half miles, in 2min 37 3-ssec. PIT-A-PAT (1890), by Ituuert —Footprint. by Robinson Crusoe—Balkis, by Chieftain, is a, very handsome bay marc and is served bv Eton. KTLMOREY (’imp.), 1892. iw one of the choice lots of the stud ; a whole black showing great quality, and with a sweet temper, she would be desirable in in any stud. She is the dam of Newry. Armagh, Little Mabel, Kilmarnock. and Kilderkin, all wirn *rs. She missed last year to Eton and has visited him aaain. Bred at the Yardley Stud. Fngb nd, she is by Kilwarlin from Union, by Sterling, and her pedigree is full of classic w’nn u s.

LADY’ AGNES (1886) is another rare bred one, being by Neckersgat (sire of Dunlop, etc.,) from Peradventure (imp.), by Adventurer (sire of Pretender) from Manganese (Hinn guineas), by Birdcatcher. She has a (illy at foot by Eton and has visited him again. WINDMILL (1886). by Goldsbroigh— Al erry-go- Round, by 11 am let —Whirlpool (half-sister to that great mare Hurricane), has made her reputation by the performances of her daughter Air Motor, one of Australia's best performers ; also her son Spalpeen, a great horse over hurdles. This i»are missed to Eton la v t year and has this year hern mated with Soult. RATTI ER (1898) a full sister to Seahorse, the best three-year-old of his year in New Zealand, a tine big mare with a nice colt foal by Cyrenian. and served by Soult. Being by Nelson out of the Goldsboro ugh mare Moonga she is a rare bred one and s-houkl receive at' ention next Wednesday. SONGSTRESS I hear has died since my visit. She was an old mare and has produced man - useful racehorses in Australia. Her daughter Canatatriee was sold last year at Messrs Nathan's sale for 300 guineas. Songstress left a filly foal by Cyrcnian. which 1 presume will be sold. DOI LY. the dam of Solo and the champion penv Soniea. is by Randwick from a Young Plover mare, and has served by Eton. The mares all appear to be robust a'd healthy. Indeed, with numerous b aiitifallv grassed jiadi-o'-ks and phnt.y of Hi ds and live shelter they could ha'dly fail to do justice to the care and attentionthey receive. The stallion Eton, by Castor-lady Walmsley, by Musket—Mersey, was running in his paddock and was getting plenty of exercise by galloping about. He was hardly in show condition, but hard and healthy looking.
