LIQUOR TRADES DEFENCE UNION OF S.A.

A meeting of the committee was held at the office of the union on October 25. Mr William George Auln presided, and ■there were present eleven other membeis, representing all branches of the trade. The report of the Parliamentary committee, which detailed the work done since the last meeting of the general committee, was read, and the following recommendations were adopted : — • 1. To favour the candidature for Parliament, or other public position, of those favourable to the liquor interest. 2. To encourage any means taken with a view to the betterment, financially or otherwise, of the trade. Other recommendations of the Parliamentary committee were referred back for further consideration. The secretary gave particulars of his interviews with brewers, wine and spirit merchants, vignerons, etc. A long list of promises of financial support was read, and some members of the committee undertook to interview large firms inter•ested, and thus secure their support.
