THE GLENORA PARK YEARLINGS

Mr Walters has before now sent up some first-class yearlings to be disposed of at the annual sale, some of our best performers having been bred at Glenora Park. There are some very taking looking youngsters this season, which will face the auctioneer’s rostrum along, with the Cambria Park Yearlings, on January 4. A brief description of these may, therefore, be found of more than passing interest. On Mr Walters bringing them out, the first to come under observation was a brown filly, by The Officer—Lustrous, who is low-set and very lengthy, a beautiful mover, and of a very docile disposition. She comes of a great family, tracing back on the dam’s side through Radiant, Topaz, The Gem, to Chrysolite (the granddam of Nordenfeldt, etc.), who was by Stockwell from Juliet.

A great, raking bay colt can easily be picked as the son of Cuirassier and the St. Leger mare St. Edith, another rare bred one, going back to Syren, a fullsister to Fanny Fisher, being by Fisherman out of Coquette. Like most of the Cuirassiers, this colt may require a little time, but patience with him should be amply compensated for later on!.

The sister to Marshal Soult and Grenadier is a well-grown filly, standing over a lot of ground, and a great galloper in the paddock ; her credentials] are so good that buyers are not likely to overlook her.

The brown colt, by Soult—Lady Musket, is a late foal, but he is wonderfully well-grown, and a most likelylooking youngster. His sister, Lass o’ Gowrie, has proved herself such a sterling performer, that this handsome colt is well worthy of attention. One of the gems of this year’s yearlings is the sister to Avalanche, Promotion and Grouchy, a bay with a white star. She is a very shapely and evenly, made filly, with plenty of size and power. She handles herself in the paddock in a manner . that leaves little doubt about her doing justice to her speedy relative’s reputation. The Soult—Fishgirl colt is a dark brown, and as he was not foaled till December 30, he is very severely handi-

capped when compared to youngsters foaled early in the season. He is a nicely-proportioned little -fellow, and takes very much after his sire. Lady Emmeline contributes a brown filly by Soult. She is a nice racy-look-ing filly, with a short back, good shoulders, and powerful quarters, and should know how to gallop. After looking over the yearlings, Mr Walters took us across the farm to the mares and foals. In all there are 7 colts by Soult, including brothers to Wairiki, Marshal Soult, Avalanche, Lass o’ Gowrie, etc., and all fine, healthy youngsters. With a little luck, what a sale Glenora Park should have next year !
