A match against time took place in England last month. Mr Ross Isherwood’s Grace Greenlander and King of Pearls were set the task of covering 22 miles inside one hour, the backer of time being Mr Ross, of Birmingham. Both animals were driven alternately by George Wilxsmre. Grace Greenlander trotted first and covered 15 laps and 380yds, which represented six miles 470yds, in 17min Bsec. King of Pearls was taken in hand, and that gelding was driven 12 laps, or 380yds short of five miles. At the expiration of the half-hour Wiltshire was lOsec outside the necessary time to win. Subsequently Grace Greenlander was set going again, and, by covering the next 15 laps in 15min llAsec, gave King of Pearls a good opportunity of finishing inside time. The last-named had 13min left in which to encompass the last five miles, and accomplished the task very readily, the 22 miles being covered in 59min 32 3-ssec, or 27 2-ssec inside the hour.
