Miss Trevor Jones is now the lady golf champion of Australia, besides the lady champion of New South Wales. The former title was won on the Bondi links a few days ago, when Miss Trevor Jones again showed very fine form. The previous holder of the championship was Mrs de Little, of Geelong, who did not defend her title.

By last mail further news is to hand of the recent English tennis championships held at Wimbledon, and of the international matches for the “ Davis ” Cup, which followed on immediately after their conclusion. Of the side events in the championships the most closely contested was in the ladies’ and gentlemen’s doubles, in which Dr. Eaves (well-known in Australia) and Mrs Winch were the runners-up. The final was fought out between this pair and S. H. Smith (one of the runners-up in the doubles championship. The first set was very close, and was won by Smith and Miss Thomson, with the score 7 —-5 ; but in the second set it was only when the score reached 12 —10 that this pair were declared the winners.

A very close and exciting match was witnessed in the preliminary round for the “ Davis ” Cup between teams representing Belgium and France. Max Decugis, the holder of the French singles championship, met De Borman, the Belgian champion, in the first round, but unfortunately the latter injured his right hand, and after losing the first set, 6 —4, had to retire in the second set with the score 5— in favour of Decugis. The second rubber was between Lemaire (Belgium) and Ayme (France) ; and, as the latter had had no opportunity of practising on grass, Lemaire won easily, 6— L, 6—o, 6— 1. On the second day the doubles were played, and after a very long game the French players won by three sets to two. On the third day, however, De Borman was quite himself again, and beat Aymer easily. The result of the match then hinged on the rubber between Lemaire and Decugis, and, contrary to expectation, Lemaire won by three sets to two. During the match it looked a certainty -for France, as Decugis won the first set, and though he lost the second was quite irresistible 'in .the third, winning it 6 —o. After this, however, Lemaire seems to have made a Remarkable'recovery, as he won the next two sets and the match, 6—4, 6—2. '

The match which followed between the British Isles and Belgium was very onesided, as the Belgians failed to score a set against the Dohertys, and. only one against Riseley, and the British team therefore won the match by five rubbers to love.
