New that the season has closed, it is possible to obtain the statistics bearing on the same. As usual, “ Pentagraph ”of the “ Referee ” publishes a list, and glancing down it, the first name to appear at the head of the winning stallions is Stepniak, whose progeny, with thirty victories, have secured the sum of £BO9B during the season. Orloff and King Log have done the most to - put the “ Russian ” in pride of place, and, as he is begetting so many good ones at Eldershe, it is a position from which it will be hard to oust him. The Wellington Park stallion, ' Hotchkiss, comes next, twenty-one of his descendants having earned for him £6,780, a record for this grand-looking son of Musket It is, moreover, quite safe to assume that if Royal Artillery had been trainable Hotchkiss would have been at the top of the tree. St. Leger, now dead,£comes close on the heels of his late fellow stud mate with £6,515, while another Aucklander in Soult has, thanks to Wairiki, made such a big advance that he comes out fourth, his stock having secured £5,611. Owing to the mishap to Nonette his sire., Seaton Delaval, has dropped back to fifth place with £5.438i which is much below his former total.

As might have been expected Medal- s lion’s great son, Achilles, has earned the most during the season,.having placed to his credit £2,685 (won id six races), but he has a doughty rival in Wairiki, who follows with £2,495, to obtain which the son of Soult had to win on nine occasions. That good mare, Lady Lillian, is in third place, her earnings coming out As £2,048, J and then follow Orloff, Treadmill, Siege " Gun, Halberdier, Mars, Haydn, King Log, Strathavon, Kamo, St. Denis, ~ Cruciform, Pallas, and Landlock in that order.
