A very successful Billiard Tournament, took place at Thos. McEwin’s Papakura Hotel (the first to be held in the district), last week. There were twentytwo entries, and the handicapping, which was in the able hands of Mr F. Wilson, gave every satisfaction. The following were the handicaps E. Jones, jun., owes 50 ; H. French, scratchH. Wilson, scratch ; R. Skipwith, scratch ; J. Jones, receives 10 ; J. Croskery, receives 20 ; J. Walker, receives 20 ; W. Gray, receives 20 ; D. Wilson, sen., receives 20 ; A. Hill, receives 40 J. Robinson, receives 40 ; D. Snodgrass, receives 40 ; E. Adolf, receives 40 ; A. Tighe, receives 40 • T. Robinson, receives 40 ; J. Carle, receives 40 ; J. Brown, receives 40 ; A. Pollock, receives 50 ; F. Martinovitch, receives 50; V. Meagher, receives 50 ; E. S. Cole, receives 60 ; M. Regan, receives so. Mr E. Jones, jun. (owes 50) was installed favourite, and held his own until the semi-final, when he was beaten by the “dark horse” of the tournament, Mr T. Robinson (40), who in the final suffered defeat at the hands of Mr F. Martin,ovitch. The latter thereby won the first prize, silvermounted pipe, Mr T. Robinson winning the second prize, amber cigarette holder, and Mr E. Jones, jun., winning the prize for biggest break (33).

The English billiardist, H. W. Stevenson (champion of South Africa), put up an Australian record in his match on Saturday afternoon in the Queen Victoria Markets against C. Memmott. The coming, champion scored 416 in 26 minutes, and in, the evening made another fine break of 347. His 883 for the evening were put on in the very rapid time of 64 minutes, and he averaged 69 5 per break. Stevenson’s record break is 648, made in a heat in the championship against E. Dingle in 1909.
