OUR ILLUSTRATIONS

The sporting event of the week has been the Swimming Championships, held under the auspices of the Northern Swimming Club. This attracted some of the best swimmers from the other centres, and these performed most brilliantly. An excellent photo of these young aquatic experts is given in this issue, also a view of the Graving Dock with a race in progress.

Mr C. P. Murdoch, whose portrait is shown, is one of our best known yachtsmen, being Commodore of the Royal New Zraland Yacht Squadron. Particulars of his career will be found in our aquatic columns. The approaching meeting of the Auckland Racing Club is as usual arousing a great deal of interest. One of the most popular races is the Great Northern Champagne Stakes, which will be run on Saturday next. Mr H. Friedlander’s pair, Kamo and Roseshield, are considered to hold a big mortgage on the classic race, so their portraits will be of interest.

Miss Olga Beatty Kingston and Miss Molly Pearson are two well-known English actresses, who have just arrived in Australia to join Mr J. C. Williamson’s Company, which is to produce “ Are You a Mason ?”

Miss Lizzie Payne and Miss Maude Payne, two of the original members of the Steele-Payne Bellringers, who are at present on a visit to Auckland, and have arranged to give a sacred concert at Abbott’s Opera House on Good Friday (tomorrow) Night. The popularity of these talented ladies will ensure them a hearty welcome.

Mr R. T. Tregaski has been the touring representative for the Steele-Payne Bellringers for a number of years. His pleasant and courteous manner has won for him many friends, both in the profession and in private life.
