The weather for the races on Wednesday was very wretched, showers failing at intervals all th* afternoon, whilst the heat was intense’ The attendance was moderate. The following are the results :— Maiden Plate of 40 sovs. one mile —Valima 1, Endeavour 2, Hartley 3 Won easily Time, Imin 48sec. Dividends, £5 8s and £2 4s. Hack Handicap Hubdles of 45 sovs, one mile and three-quarters.—Romany Lad, 9 7,1; Hinekura, 9.0, 2 ; Westerly, 97, 3. Won by a length, i ime, 3min 30sec. Dividends, £6 7s and £1 , 6s. Gbandstand Hack Handicap of 45 sovs> one mile.- Bingman, 82. 1; Lifebelt, 89, 2 ; Oudenarde, 89, 3. Won by a length, lime, 1 min 49 1 ssee. Dividends, £2 Ils and £1 3s. Woodville Cup of 200 sovs, one mile and a quarter. —Oracle, 7.7,1; Tupara, 7.7, % ; Good Intent, 6.13, 3. Hinetaura was scratched. Queen’s Guard was made favorite, but failed to ”ain a place. Oracle stalling off a challenge by Gallagher on Tupara, won handsomely. Time, 2min 15 4 ssec., Dividends, £l9 7s and £2 4s.
Flying Handicap of 40 sovs, sijt furlongs.— Wind, 7.0, 1; Matuku, 8 0,2; Detonator, 7.7, 3. Scratched—Silver Star, Opal, Hatley, Endeavour, and French Maid. Won by a couple lengths. Time, Imin 20 2-ssec. Dividends, £5 18s and 14s. Bobough Handicap of 50 sovs, seven furlongs. —Narcotic, 7.7, 1 ; Assayer, 7.13, 2; Pure Silver, 7.7, 3. Scratched—Field Battery, Rebel, Shrapnel Shell, Oracle, Gipsy Jack, Waimoe, and Shackle. by a length Time, Imin 34 3-ssec. Dividends, £2 12s and £1 15s. Welteb Handicap of 40 sovs, one mile and a distance. —Alas, 813, 1 ; The Guesser, 9.13, 2; La Torpedo, 8 13, 3. Scratched —Louie. Won all the way. Time, 2min 3 3-ssec. Dividends, £6 5s and 19s. The stewards held an irquiry into the running of Alas, as the horse was absolutely last in the Maiden Handicap all the way. Though a suspicious case, no action was taken. Electric Handicap of 45 sovs, five furlongs—Shrapnel Shell, 86, 1; Platypus, 713, 2» Gold Seal, 8.10, 3. Scratched —ifield Battery. Lady’s Link, Gipsy Jack, and Stepdaughter. Won by a clear length. Time, Imin 7 l-ssec. Dividends, £6 7s and £1 4s.
