OPERA HOUSE.
The Opera House was re-oponed on Saturday night by Miss Fitzmauric Gill’s Dramatic Company, who produced Wm Bourne’s five-act drama “ Man to Man.” Mr George Abbott, under whose management the company is touring New Zealand, must have felt in a happy frame of mind when he had to post notices at the stalls and amphitheatre doors to say “House full!” at 7.30 p.m. On an opening night it is seldom that good dramas fail to draw a crowd in Auckland, and such favourites with the local theatregoers as Miss Gill and Mr Charles Blake gave the public a strong desire to witness the opening performance of the present company, and judging by the houses during the early part of this week I predict a record business. The piece is well mounted, and full of exciting scenes and situations, all of which were carried out in a praiseworthy manner, and realistically played by a strong company, Miss Fitmaurice Gill and Mr Charles Blake taking the leading roles. “ Man to Man” will be played until Wednesday, and as a holiday attraction “ Work and Wages” will be staged on Thursday evening.
