THE YEARLINGS FETCH 5370 GUINEAS.

O> Saturday was held the seventeenth annual sale of the yearlings bred by .Mr Thomas Morrin, at Wellington Park? The sale always attracts a big attendance, and this year was no exception to the rule. Among those round the ring were to be noticed Sir George Clifford, Hon. J. Carroll, Hon. H. Mosman, Major Pitt, Dr. Stuart Reid, Messrs G. G. §tead, W. Clifford (Christchurch), Alfred Kidd, Murdoch McLean, J. J. Craig, E. W. Alison, W. H. Berries, M.H.R., E. J. Watt (Napier), L. De Pelichet (Napier), F. D. Woodroffe (Canterbury), M. Friedlander (Ashburton), M. McPherson (Wellington), R. H. Nolan (Hawera), J. A. Cook (Dunedin), R. T. Turnbull (Wellington), E. J. Parker, W. Hepburn (Gisborne), J. Marshall, W. Walters, E. A. brother to Multiform was led into the Hug there was a buzz of admiration, followed by a bid of 500 guineas, and a OOuple of bids soon took the price to 1000 guineas. Four bids carried it along to 1100 guineas, when Messrs Friedlander and {Alison were left to fight it out. At 1175 Guineas it looked for a moment as if the mhburton sportsman would secure the colt, but the Member for Waifcemata . was DOt done with, and another 25 guineas from him settled the matter. A round of applause greeted Mr Alison’s plucky effort -jfo secure the colt. Another youngster for which there was acme smart bidding was the brown colt by Hotchkiss from Armilla, and after a sharp fight Mr G. G. Stead stayed in the mar. feat longest, and secured the yearling for TOO guineas. Mr Friedlander gave 610 guineas for the Castor—Cissy colt, while a very handsome colt by Phoebus Apollo from Aida was' picked up by Mr E. J. Watt, of Napier, for 375 guineas, and if I mistake not; the youngster was a bargain git the price. The creature comforts of visitors to the famous stud were well looked after, Mr King supplying a capital luncheon, and an enjoyable afternoon was spent by those present.
