The Austral Wheel Race Meeting was continued at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Saturday, December 8, the attendance being estimated at 17,000, and the takings £719. Results Austral Wheel Race, two miles; first, £400; second, £75 ; third, £25. —First heat: Coleman, 320yds, 1; Nolan, 270yds, 2 ; Stewart, 180yds, 3. Other starters : M‘Cormack, Robinson, Rivers, Blundell, Stanlake, Horsburgh, Court. Won by six lengths. The winner is a son of Mr John Coleman, the bookmaker, and is a very little fellow. Time, 4min 56 4-ssec. Second heat : Tonnies, 300yds, 1 ; Collins, 220yds, 2; Body, 300yds, 3. Other starters : Stevenson, Gibson, Hickey, Ryan, Deas, Davidson, Byrne, Burns, ' Lowe. Won by a length. Ryan fell. Time, 4min 52 4-ssec. Third heat: Richards, 280yds, 1; Bailey, 140yds, 2 ; Lindgren, 220yds, 3. Other starters : Lewis, Barker. Roberts, Luck, Menare, Whitely, Adams, Hede, Moran. Won easily. Barker and Adams fell. Roberts slipped off his machine at the start. Time, 4min 43 3-ssec. Fourth heat: Stapleton (N.S.W.), 220yds, 1 ; Beauchamp, scratch, 2; Esler, 160yds, 3. Other starters : Chapman, Kellow, Tebbut, Cochrane, Palmer, Finnigan, Clinton, Swan, Corbett, Fogarty. Won by six lengths. Swan and Corbett fell. Time, 4min 38 l-ssec. Fifth heat : Champness, 210yds, 1 ; M'Gibbon, 150yds, 2; Filsell, 90yds, 3. Other starters: Gordon, Wilksch, Carpenter, z Clinton, Brooks, Middleton, Gerster, Phipp, Littlechild. Won by two lengths. Time, 4min 30 4-ssec. Sixth heat: Hudson, 110yds, 1; Blundell, 250yds, 2; Ginger, 200yds, 3. Other starters: Herd, Thomas, Pye, Irish, Wood, Forbes, Cleminston, Quirk, Deeble Won by a length. Time, 4min 30sec. Seventh heat : Middleton, 80yds, 1 ; Forbes, 30yds, 2; Taylor, 70yds, 3. Other starters : Walne, Millington, Cole, ' Sidler, Von der Luft, Doyle, Wright, Shaw, Smith. Won by a few inches. Time, 4min 37 l-ssec. Eighth heat : Morgan, 20yds, I ; Hunt, scratch, 2; Body, 40yds, 3. Other starters : Vaughan, Symonds, Carpenter, Corbett, Gargurevich, Hilder, Shiell, Symes, Walsh, Gibson. Won by five lengths. Time, 4min 35 2-ssec. Ninth heat: Callaghan, 220yds, 1 ; Mason, 2; Mott, 180yds, 3. Other starters: M‘Donald, Walker, Prowse, Tame, Fay, Cameron, Kett, Dotzaucr, Kuhle. Won by three lengths. Martin was drawn in this heat, but scratched himself, as he believed he bad no chance, seeing that five of the favourite candidates straight-out for the race were in the same heat. ~ Cameron, Kett and Dotzauer fell. Time, 4min 26 3-ssec —a record for the track. Tenth heat: Clark, 200yds, 1; Boyd, 190yds, 2;' Body, 220yds, 3 Other starters : Matthews, Davies, Gooch, Watson, Wilmott, Duery, Barry, Woodward. Won by a length. Time, 4min / 39 1-5 sec. Eleventh heat (for men placed second in foregoing heats) : Forbes, 1 ; M'Gibbon, 2; Blundell. 3. Won by a few inches. Boyd, Bailey, Nolan, and Hunt fell. Time, 4min 49sec. Twelfth heat (for men olaced third in previous heats) : Mott, 1; Body, 2; Esier, 3. Won by a length Time, 4min 43 l-ssec. International Scratch Race, one mile; first, £35, blue ribbon and silver badge of the M.B.C. ; second, £lO ; third, £5. —First heat : Filsell, 1 ;
Hunt, 2; M‘Donald, 3. Body also started. Won by about a length, some inches separating Hunt and M £ Donald. Time, 2min 16 3-ssec. Second heat : Walker, 1 ; Gordon, 2; Pebbutt, 3. Vaughan (American) also started. Won by a few inches. Time, 2min 16 3-ssec. Third heat: Morgan, 1 ; Walne, 2 ; Symonds, 3. Forbes and Taylor also started. Morgan won easily. Time, 2min 11 3-ssec. Fourth heat: Martin, 1; Lewis, 2 ; Lawson, 3. Carpenter and Wilksen also started. Martin beat Lewis by half a wheel, Lawson being a dozen lengths behind. Time, 2min 14sec. Fifth heat: Barker, 1; Beauchamp, 2 ; Chapman 3. Clinton also started. Won by a few inches. Time, 2min 18sec. : Morgan (Vic.), 1 ; Martin (U.S.), 2; Walker (Vic.), 3. Filsell and Barker started. Won by a wheel. Time, 2min 17sec. Ten Miles Scratch Race, first, £45; second, £l5 ; third, £5, and 5s a lap pacing prizes.— Martin (U.S.), 1; Lewis (N.S.W.), 12; Beauchamp (Tas.), 3. Won by a wheel.
