J. A. Jervis, the English Amateur Swimming Champion, during an interview gives the following account of how he prepares himself for championship races:—“ My chief exercise is walking, and when in active training I sometimes go along the road for twenty miles at full speed. My opinion is that if I cun do that I can stay in a distance race. My leg stroke when in the water is nothing more nor less than walking, and as I share the opinion that I win all my races with my legs—for my arms are not powerful—l know that my attention to that part of my training is necessary. In addition to walking I use an exerciser and Indian clubs. Thus you will see that I work hard. Notwithstanding this, I always train soft. I never exercise immediately

after a meal, but at the same time do not work on an empty stomach. I never leave anything to chance, and always prepare so carefully that L usually know what will happen.” Owing to the rough weather last Saturday the Parnell Sailing Club had to postpone their Club races until next Saturday.
