THE AUCKLAND T OTTING CLUB’S SPRING MEETING.

ftThe response received from owners and trainers to the handicaps framed by Mr Edwards for the opening day of the above Meeting, must be very

satisfactory to the Club and {leasing to the handicapper. All through the acceptances are good, and the promise of a very interesting day’s sport is sound. The public are sure to attend Potter’s Paddock on Saturday, for we have had no racing since the Avondale gathering, and there are many, no doubt, extremely anxious to try and spot the winners. Proceedings on Saturday commence with the Maiden Pony Handicap. There are ten acceptors, the top weight, being Fairy Bower, whose list should not put him out of count, Next to the top-weight, Motukorea and Little Jim are perhaps left with chances There are some strangers in the field of whom little is known. I fancy the result may lie between

Fairy Bower, Little Jim and Motukorea

The Hurdle Race has seven left in. If Fairy Bower can jump, the list 71b should not be much of a trouble. Venus, 10st 101 b; New Boy, 10st 4lb; and The Flower, lOst, should make the race very interesting, and probably the verdict may fall to New Boy, In the October Handicap I like best Topsail, Fairy Tale and Shamrock. The Flying Handicap has eight acceptors, and the race may result in a good finish between Fairy Bower, Shambock, and Dolly. The Maiden Trot, one mile and a-half, has secured a big acceptance, no less than' fifteen having been paid up for. It is a bit of a puzzle

to select the winner,, and I give it up. i Those I i-hiuk will trot well forward are Nat Gould, Miss Graham, and Martha. The Spring Handicap Trot ought to. furnish a really interesting race. The Joker is on scratch, and I think he will, have all his work cut to win. Lord Harold, Wa tekauri, and either Pioke or August are sure to be handy if they go kindly, while Empress is an honest little mare that will trot well. Perhaps the conclusion may be fought out by Lcrd Harold, Empress, and Hird’s Elect. The smallest field of the day will very likely contest the Stewards Trot, and I shall look forward to a finish between Woodbine, and Little Dootob. The Electric Trot, one mile, should produce an exciting contest, and the issue may lie between The Jokeb, Lobo Habold, and Little Agnes.
