At Ha tford, on September 5, Cresceus beat the world’s trotting stallion record in a match against time. The times for the quarters Were : First, 31|sec, half-mile Imin 2fseo, threequarters Imin 33|sec, and the full distance 2min Cresceus finished very strongly, and was not in the least blown. The former record, 2min s|sec, was held by Directum. One of the sensational horses out this year is the pacing horse Connor 204 f, says the Breeder and Sportsman. He has been leading the horses in his class through the Grand Circuit and the limit of his speed does not seem to have been reached yet. Connor has won more than one hundred heats at the pacing gait, and twentyone at the diagonal way of going. His trotting record is 2.13|. He comes of a double gaited family, as his grandam is the dam of the horse Charley P.that had a pining record of 2 11| and a trotting record of 2.25|. Connor is by C. F. Olay 2.18, the sire of Coleridge 2.05 J and Choral 2.08. 0. F. Olay was by Caliban, a son of Mambrino Pilot and out of Soprano, dam of six in 2.30, and she out of Abbess, the dam of Steinway. Connor’s dam is Bessie V by William Welch, son of Hambletonian 10, second dam Martha by Rothschild, a son of Mambrino Patchen. Connor took his record of 2.04 J at Providence in a race which he won in straight heats, the time being 2.061, 3.04 f and 2.05. He beat Riley 8., Harry 0., Will Leyburn, Island Wilkes Jr., Johnny Agan and Sphinx S. For the Spring Meeting the Otahuhu Trotting Club has framed a very attractive programme. The fixture will be held at' Potter’s Paddock on Saturday and Wednesday, December 8 and 12, and for the two days’ racing stake money ainounting to £590 is provided. The biggestmoneyed race of the gathering is the Otahuhu Spring Trot Handicap of two miles. This event is worth 60 sovs, of which the second horse will receive 10 sovs Trotters entered for this race will be handicapped to do 2min 53sec or better for the mile. The Harness Trot Handicap, one mile and a-half, is worth 50 sovs, and horses nominated will be handicapped to trot a mile in 2min 55sec or better. .The Telephone Trot, one mile, has a stake of 40 sovs, and is for saddle or harness horses. The winner of any trotting race after the handicaps are published will be mulcted in a penalty of ssec. On the second day there are three trotting events worth 50 sovs each, the Suburban Trot Handicap, two miles, the Second Harness Trot, one mile and a-half, and the Class Trot Handicap, one mile. In the last-named the entrants will be handicapped to do the distance in 2mih 45sec or better. The
