THE HAWKE’S BAY JOCKEY CLUB’S SPRING MEETING.

On Monday and Tuesday next the Hawke’s Bay racing people will have opportunities of en joyment, fo. the first meeting of the season take place at Hastings. The acceptances for th various races "are very satisfactory, and though after Behown’s form in the Wanganui Guineas, the Hawke’s Bay classic race seems to be at bis mercy, the racing all through should be very interesting. The weather at Napier, which has been bad, seems to have cleared, and the prospects of fine weather are good. If the sun shines there will be a big attendance on each day, and the Club will have a prosperous time. The public will have a pretty hard task in finding the winners of all races bar the Guineas. For that race Renown looks a good thing for e incurs no penalty for his win at Wanganui. He should certainly hold safely those who ran against him at Wanganui. The Shannon has|been doing very creditable work on the training tracks, and she may give the cerise bearer a good race. Kahuwai has been accepted for, and will probably start I shall look for the following result: — Renown 1 The Shannon 2

The October Handicap ought to finish a good race. Rosella and Crusoe occupied places in the Spring Handicap at Wanganui, and they will probably run well at Hawke’s Bay. .The Hon J. D. Ormond has a couple of good ones in Ideal and Paphos, and the selected of the stable will make a bold bid for victory. Cceur de Lion did not do any too well at Wanganui. En Hakore has arrived on the scene of action, but I do not fancy .this mare for this race. Tirade shouid run

prominently. Scottish Minstrel can have no chance on his Wanganui running. Hengist has to show what he can do before I can commend him against good company. Daphne, with 6st 121 b, is not at all overburdened. She won at Waipawa, and with her light weight she may make things merrv for some part of the way. I
