ROBERTS V WEISS FOR £5OO ASIDE.

The following are the Ar'icles of Agreement entered into between John Roberts, of London, on the one part, and Frederick H. Weiss, of Sydney, on the other part, for a match at Billiards, for a stake of £lOOO (£5OO aside), the said match to be played in two sections, viz : one in Sydney, and the other section in Melbourne, under conditions hereinafter cited and mutually agreed upon : — The Principals to the Agreement agree to meet in a Billiard Match, 21,000 up, with Bonzoline Balls, the said John Roberts conceding the said Frederick Weiss 7000 points start in 21,000 points up, for a Stake of £lOOO Three hundred pounds each (£6OO in all) b ing deposited in the custody of the Stakeholder on Wednesday, Septem ber 5, 1900, and the balance of the stake-money £2OO each (making £lOOO in all) must be in the hands of the Stakeholder not later than Wednesday, September 19, 1900. With the mutual consent of the” the stake-money may be increased to ££ooo (£lOOO aside). All moneys accruing from admission and other receipts shall be apportioned as followed : —The said John Roberts to receive two-thirds, and the said F. H. Weiss to receive one-third of the gross proceeds, such third to be a first charged on the takings for admission. That the whole of the takings for admission, etc., must be placed daily to the credit of an account in some bank to be mutually agreed upon. One party to these articles to appoint check-takers, and the other party to appoint cash-takers. That both parties agree to the match being played in two sections, viz : Six days in Sydney (commencing on the 10th October, 1900), and the remainder of the match in Melbourne, commencing in that city on the 18th of October. The said match to be played under the latest Revised Rules of the Billiard Association of Great Britain, with the following limitation : — That “ corner ” or “ jambed ” cannons be barred by a baulk line extending seven inches from cushion to cushion at the four corner pockets, and that only two consecutive cannons be allowed inside such protected area.” That the match be played with Bonzoline Balls —a complete new set of such balls being supplied. Such set of balls to be agreed upon mutually by the players, and in the event of their being unable to agree, the referee to decide. That the table be ironed between each session to the satisfaction of the referee. That the match be played upon “ Standard ” tables, and according to the measurements of the templates of the Billiard Association The table in Sydney to be sunplied by Messrs Heiron and . mith, and in Melbourne by Messrs Aleook and Co. That the markers be appointed by mutual consent. That the halls where the games are to be played in be agreed upon by mutual consent. That both parties hereby agree to Mr Phil Glenister to act as referee for the match, and in the event.of his being unable to offiiate at any time during such match they hereby agree to his appointing a substitute. That the Sydney Referee be the Stakeholder. Both parties to these articles agree that in the case of any question cropping up not provided for in these articles, they will only agree by mutual consent. That in the event of either party to these articles failing to comply with the above-enume-rated conditions, the one so at fault shall forfeit all right to all moneys deposited with the Stakeholder.
