GISBORNE RACING CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Gisborne Racing Club was held at the Argyll Hotel on Friday, August 24 There . was a large attendance, Mr D. Hepburn in the chair. The following report was received from the outgoing Committee The Committee of the 'Gisborne Racing Club, in presenting their -eleventh annual report, feel pleasure in stating that the season has terminated more successfully than might have been expected considering the weather the Steeplechase Meeting had to contend with, as will be shown by the balance--sheet submitted. That every effort was made to Tender the meetings thoroughly enjoyable, as well as to secure for them financial success, we -feel assured will be admitted. Hunt Club : It will be seen that up to the present the usual -donation had not been voted for the past year It will be necessary for the incoming Committee -to make arrangements with the Park Company, -the lease having expired. The Committee have ■again to record their thanks to Captain Tucker (judge), Mr Matthewson (treasurer), and those -other gentlemen who gave valuable assistance in their various capacities during the past season. The retiring members of Committee, according to rule, are.: — Messrs Hepburn, Matthewson, Whitby, Des Barres, Finn, and Downes. The Arst-named four are eligible for re-election—the two latter gentlemen have left the district. There is one other vacancy, caused by the resignation of Mr Harding, which it will be necessary to fill. The balance- sheet shows that the principal falling off comes under the heading of totalisator receipts. The outstanding liabilities amount to £55, but as against this there is a credit balance in the bank of £124 8s; and amounts due from owners, etc., £24 ss, in the collection of which no trouble is anticipated.” Mr T. O’ConnelljJEL M. Porter, and O. White were elected to the vacant positions on the Oom:mittee. Mr Desßarres raised the question of the advisability of free lunches on race days to stewards - and others being abolished. The Club had paid .£l4 during the year for lunches, which amount he thought could be saved. After some discussion the matter was referred -to the Committee. At the conclusion of the general meeting the Committee met and elected the following officers Chairman of Committee, Mr D. Hepburn ; President, Hon J. Carroll; Vice President, Mr Hepburn, treasurer, Mr G. Matthewson; judge, Captain Tucker; totalisator steward, Mr W. O. Sheet; clerk of scales, Mr J. E. Whitby; clerk of course, Mr A. Pritchard; Mr M. G. Nasmith ; auditor, Mr H. M. Porter; stewards, Messrs J Sisterson, O. White, R. Harper, A. B. Newman, W. Gault, C. J. Parker, G. R. Wyllie, F. 8. Desßarres, F. A. Martin, 8. Williamson, H. M.. Porter; pro;gramme committee, Messrs Hepburn, Harper, .Matthewson, and Gault. On the motion of Mr J. E. Whitby, the sum of £l7 17s was voted to the Hunt Club. The Chairman said that he was sorry the Club could :not afford to vote the sum of £25, as was done last year, but they would endeavour to make it -up next season. The secretary was instructed to take the necessary steps to have the names of all defaulters in respect of nomination fees, etc., placed on the forfeit list.
