June 23—North shore v Ponsonby, Grafton v Parnell, Grey Lynn v Suburbs. CONTINUATION OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP CONTESTS. WINS FOR NORTH SHORE, PONSONBY, AND PARNELL. The third series of championship contests took place at the Domain Cricket Ground on Saturday afternoon last. Beautiful weather prevailed, the ground was in good order, and some interesting games took place. There was a large muster of enthusiasts, the Pavilion was well filled, while the seats on the slopes were mostly occupied. The Ponsonby district ladies provided afternoon tea, and the thanks of those who were present are due to them for their ceaseless efforts. Secretary Walker notifies that all matches will commence punctually at 245 pm. An official timekeeper has been appointed. He will direct the teams when to start, change ends every quarter, half-time, and time by bell signals from the Pavilion. North Shore created a surprise by lowering Giafton’s colours. They will take a lot of beating in tte championship as the majority of them aie jcung fellows, they are good lasters, and can muster heaps of pace. Loeuu. .

Ponsonby played up to expectations by defeating Grey Lynn by a good margin Suburbs suffered their third defeat at the hands of Parnell. The latter have greatly improved, and will be well up when the championship is decided ' North Shore v Grafton: Miller (Shore) and Wilson (Grafton) opened the proceedings. The latter secured and threw well into Shore s territory, where the black and whites pressed very hard. Alexander, Tizard, and Ward ably resisted all attacks and carried the ball into midfield. Blackler shone out for good work, passed to Wynyard, who dashed along at a good pace and sent the rubber on to Walker, who drew first blood. Grafton attempted to invade the blues’ territory, but when they got to Kelly and Tizard their career was stopped. Eor five minutes fast give and take play took place at midfield; then Grafton attackers got through the opposing defence, who were far too close up, and carried the ball right up to Eagleton in goal, where Atkinson shot without any success. Eagleton rushed out and threw to safe quarters. Play remained at quarter-way for awhile, then the blues by persistent efforts slowly worked their way into the opposing territory. Wynyard, Kelly, and Walker were prominent, and the lastnamed accepted a pass from Wynyard and smartly shot Shore’s second goal. Again the Shore were on the aggressive, and kept at it till the bell called half spell. 1 n the next half Grafton commenced well by putting the opposing goal in danger, and a hot fire was dealt. Eagleton was equal to the occasion, and blocked everything beautifully. From a loose tussle Alexander saw his side out of danger by carrying the rubber into midfield, where it remained for the next ten minutes. Blackler, Tizard, and Miller started a passing run, which resulted in Kelly piloting the ball between the posts. After this the game looked safe for the Shore, and Grafton made several bold efforts to break away, but Ward, Tizard, and Martin did good checking work. Luckie, Hill, and Atkinson managed this time to get well up, but no score resulted. The rubber was once more in midfield after a few minutes, when Miller picked up and threw to Walker, who in turn sent it on to Wynyard, and the latter, after a clever feinting run, shot a brilliant goal. East play continued till time was sounded, and the game resulted : North Shore, 4 goals ; Grafton, nil. Mr W. B. Eyre gave satisfaction as referee. Ponsonby v. Grey Lynn: J. Peacock (Ponsonbv) and Gummer (Grey Lynn) battled for the ball, the former was successful in securing, and started matters by putting Grey Lynns’ goal in danger. For some time play kept here, nearly all the red and white’s forward men came to the rescue, and managed to hold toe doughty blue and blacks in check, finally Sweet threw well out of danger. A good chance wasjgiven Grey Lynn, but ne attack men were present. W. Notion by a long throw kept Grey Lynn again on the defence, London got possession and passed to B. Noton, who wriggled through his opponents like s snake and shot first goal for the blue and blacks. Grey Lynn seemed to loose heart after this, and altered their tactics to playing an attacking game. This was not a success. The blue and blacks still kept going strong Lundon shot a good goal, and shortly afterwards repeated this act. The red and whites, by the aid of Sweet, White and E. Bradly, carried the rubber into the oppo ing goal, and when doing well, half time was sounded. During the next half Grey Lynn fared badly, the blue and blacks improved in their passing, and bad all the best of it. They ted “ Bob ” Ndton well, with the result that seven more goals were added to their account, and making a total of ten against Grey Lynn’s nil. Mr Percy White handled the game well. Parnell v. Suburbs : Hicks and Rendall faced off. Even play eventuated for five minutes. Walker, A. Brown and N. Brown invaded Parnell’s territory, when they got to Ward, their efforts were foiled, for he threw out of boun- s at centre . Hicks, Lennot and Dennison carried the rubber into Suburbs’s ground. Here MooreJones accepted a nice pass and opened his sides account with a clinking shot The red and blacks were on the aggressive, but were checked by Fenn and Ward. East and good play followed, and Shortt, Lennot ar d Hicks shone, the last named driving Parne I’s second goal through the posts. Shortly afterwards Walker retaliated and then half-rime was sounded. Suburbs opened auspiciously by charging the opposing goal, and Mo rin secured their second goal; the whites improved greatly and kept up a hot attack. Dennison shot their third goal and Snortt their fourth. Shortly afterwards Rendall, Walker and Watson relieved the red and blacks’ ground, Walker followed up well and drove their third and last goal under the bar. Ward, Fenn and Goldsbro again stood out well for excellent defence, but the issue of the game was no longer in doubt, and Ruddock got a fifth goal for the whites, and just before time was sounded, MooreJones shot Parnell’s sixth and last goal. Scores : Parnell 6, Suburbs 3. Mr MoVeagh was referee. NOTES. But for one fault, that is defence playing too close to attack, Shore’s display was sound. Eagleton kept goal admirably, and by his efforts the blue’s success was greatly obtains i. “ Tabby ” Wynyard was always there when wanted. He showed much improved form. Blackler played all right, but he will need to drop his r mgh play. 8. Walker, Tizard Bros, and Kelly call for special notice. Kallender’s place is in goal and he will be more useful if he stops there. Reid played a head game at third man. Stewart and Ashton did well. Atkinson has played better games than he did on Saturday. Hill was very patchy. Luckie, Wilson and Hardingham were the best on attack. “ Bob ” Noton still keeps up his brilliant record at ‘ Home.” < .

Lundon and Peacock played the best of the other forward men

Mason Bros, have greatly impr >ved. S. White’s goal-keeping was faultless Gallaher, W. Noton and G. Anderson take a lot of beating. Sweet was one of the beet men on the ground. E. Bradly is useful at time?, but he is rather wild in his throwing. White and Patterson grafted hard to .vert de feat. Warnock was rather patchy in goal. Ward’s display at point was one of the best ever witnessed here; he was largely responsible for Parnell’s win. Fenn, Lennox and Goldsbro were the pick of the defenders, while Hicks (centre). Buddock, Stubbs and Moore-Jones were the beet of the attack Suburbs had the misfortune to have Somerfield, J Thomson and Foubister away, through this their combination was completely disorganised. Lex Wa’ker was the pick of the Suburbs team. N. Brown did good work.

A. Brown. Owen, Waloh and Morrin were per« baps the best of the rest. The following is the state of the competing teams : — Matches Goals

The Association would do well to make ar« rangements to keep spectators from encroaching on the field of play, otherwise an accident will happen, beside this, it greatly hampers players. There is a big chance of a Canadian team visiting the Australasian colonies next season. Secretary Walker is in communication with the Australian authorities with a view of arranging a visit ot the Canadians to New Zealand. The Annual Conference of Lacrosse Associations will be held in Melbourne next month.
