For the second day of the V.R.C. meeting dreadful weather prevailed. Heavy, continuous rains from midday considerably interfered with the attendance. The New South Wales contingent marched to the course, amidst great enthusiasm, and the Governor’s party was present. Some portions of the lawn were submerged, and the stands crowded. The colors of the riders were indistinguishable, owing to the mud. The following are the results : —

Coming into the home turn Cremona was in the lead, Gunga Din, Merriwee, Gauleon, Reviver, and Wait-a-Bit following in that order. Cremona led into the straight, but was done with below the distance, and Merriwee took the lead, winning, after a great finish, by a length, a length between Voyou and Dewey. War God was fourth, Le Var fifth, Ballistite sixth, with Fleet Admiral, April Fool, and Jackson last. Time, 3min 36|sec. The Victoria Steeplechase, a handicap sweepstake of 3 sovs each, with 250 sovs added; second horse 50 sovs, and third horse 25 sovs from the stake. About two miles.
