THE L.V. PORTRAIT GALLERY.

Mr Walter Dyer, Mine Host of the Britomart Hotel, is a Londoner by birth, and came to New Zealand some twenty-five years ago with his two 4, brothers. His first employment was with the Union Sash and Door Company, and he afterwards worked for Mr Tinney at his flax and

paper mills for about twelve months. Being of an energetic turn of character, he decided to go in for contracting, and has been most successful in that line for many years, having errried through some of the largest contracts in the timber line that have ever been handled in the Northern Wairoa district. His experience ■as a contract boss, with perhaps a hundred or more men working for him, taught him how to cater both economically and well, so that although his proprietorship of the Britomart Hotel marfis his first entry into the Trade, he does not undertake the duties of a boniface without thoroughly understanding what to do, and how to do it well. Mr Dyer, although a young a young man, considers that he has done enough hard manual labour for awhile, and has made up his mind to invest his capital in a business that will not require suoh'a

constant strain on his health. He has made a number of alterations in the Britomart. renovating it throughout, and in addition to the usual trade of the hotel, is sure to receive the patronage of all his old bush friends.
