We present our readers with a pictuie of a horse whose name is in every New Zealand sporting man’s mouth just now, that of Explosion, the four-year-old colt by Cuirassier — Jadestone, favourite for the Rew Zealand Cup. Messrs L. D. and N. A. Nathan’s coit has been doing work of a splendid character on the Ellerslie tracks, and the form he bus shown has caused him to take the position of first favourite for the big race of the year. We all desire to see the Cup brought to Auckland once more, and it is thought that George Wright, the trainer of Explosion, has an excellent chance of gaining that [honour this year. Miss Miriam Lewis, whose portrait appears upon our theatrical page, is a vocal artist who has been delighting City Hall audiences for some weeks past, and every week finds her increasing in public favour. The remaining pictures are of the late Mr Nelson Mcßae—to whom tribute is paid in another column —and views taken at the recent meeiing of the Avondale Jockey Club.
