AT HASTINGS.

[Bx Ovb R’apieb Correspondent.! Saturday, September 23. The first horse out on a fine morning was a half brother to Mutiny in Quinlivan’s stables. He only trotted and cantered. Tauhei and Clack-na-Cuddin were associated together over once round, both mares are looking very well indeed. They finished together but the grey seemed to have a bit to spare, at. Mark, Bird of Passage, and Palaver hopped over six furlongs. The first named had the best of the go, Palaver finishing last. The best gallop of the morning was between Major deorge’s two G-uintas candidates, Seahorse ana Labourer, and The frenchman, lhese horses galloped on mile. The first-named had an advantage of about half a length over his stable companion, while The Frenchman was a couple of lengths away. Tire, who is looking very well, was restricted to two circuits at a good sound pace with a light boy up. The Carbine mare Mangonui and sirocco galloped seven furlongs, and were picked up fur the last half mile by the Torpedo—Rivulet filly who finished in front, and the others close together. Castashure alone, looking very bright and well, put in two circuits, the first at half pace and the second at top, running a splendid once round with a big weight up. His stable companion First Blood put in a couple of rounds at half and three-quarter pace. Lotion, looking rough and big, cid slow work, and H.M B. Pinafore and Mystra were in company over six furlongs, finishing together and running the distance in good time. Lady Helen, Hl Braque, and Impregnable galloped one mile, and had a really good go, the first two finishing together with the others two lengths away. The filly went very well and showed a lot of poce. Torpina and Mystify galloped a circuit, the first-named having all the best of it Amoureux, with a light boy up, galloped six furlongs alone and finished strongly. Pansy galloped six furlongs alone, while Kuby and Bulrush jumped tbe schooling hurdles and both shaped well. Monday, September 25.

Horses engaged at the coming spring meetings of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey and Rapier Park Clubs are now arriving at Hastings to put the finishing touches on their preparations. The latest arrivals are Explosion, Rosella, Beddington, and Miss Belaval, who reached Hastings by tram this morning from JSapier having come down by the Te Anau from Auckland. The latter, who is in charge of bam Lindsay, is quartered at Goosemam’s, whilst the others, who came under the care of Geo. V» right, go into Martin s stables. This was an off morning as regards work on the course, but the following horses were out doing slow toilTauhei, Paddy, Laborer, Seahorse, Clack-na-Cuddin, Whitirea, The Frenchman, Palaver, '.tirade, St. Mark, Downpour, Tire, Mongonui, Castashore, First Blood, nl Draque, Lady Helen, Impregnable, Pansy, Amoureux, Lotion, Kuby, and a half brother to The Shew quartered in G-ooeeman’s stables.

r J he ball was set rolling by Tauhei, who was given a couple of rounds on the plough at half pace, pulling hard. Miss Delaval was the next, with Lindsay up. This little mure looks the picture of health. A couple of encuits at half pace was her bill of-fare. St. Mark, Bird of Passage, and 1 alaver in company galloped seven furlongs. The first-named bad all the best of the go, Palaver finishing last. George Wright’s team was next, and only trotted and cantered. Explosion is a greatly improved horse since his last appearance here. He has thickened out a 101, and dots net look so angular. Rosella left the course very sore after her w’ork this morning. The other member of the team (Beddingtoi ) is a fine specimen of a two-year-old, and looks very like Rorth Atlantic did at the same age. Clackna Cuddin galloped once round alone, not pleasing the touts too well. Whitirea did two circuits at half pace. Torpina, who is looking and going well, did a like task. Seahorse and Labourer together galloped one and a half

miles. The first-named had his companion in trouble all the way, and finished strong, but did not break the watch. Tire was restricted to

three circuits at half pace. The Frenchman galloped seven furlongs nicely, finishing strongly. Birocco and Kuby galloped once round in good style, the first-named of course having the best of it. Tirade, looking well, put in a couple of circuits at half pace. Castashore and First Blood did slow work over a couple of rounds. First Whisper galloped five furlongs in very good time, with a light boy up. Lotion was restricted to easy pacing over three circuits. Mistra alone galloped six furlongs, and finished under the whip rather badly. Amoureux galloped a splendid six furlongs, with a featherweight up. Mystify put in a couple of circuits at half pace. Mr H. A. Kussell was down with his two fillies from Tunanui, and they do him credit for country-trained animals. The first is a three-year-old by Dreadnought out of St. Katherine, named Ekateiini Passarapoulo, and

the other a two-year old by Gold Reef out of 1 Huerfana. The St. Katherine filly was tried on the course proper with colors up in Company with El Draque and Impregnable. This was a good gallop. El Draque finished in front and very strong, the St. Katherine filly next, with Impregnable two lengths away. They were tried over the Guineas course, and registered good time. Pansy, Lady Helen, ana H.M.S. Pinafore galloped a mile on the plough The last-named had the best of the go with Pansy, who got a bad start and was beaten off.
