THE WELLINGTON RACING CLUB

The monthly meeting of the stewards of the Wellington Racing Club was held on Monday afternoon. Mr Franklyn, vice-president, in the chair. The following programmes was submitted for approval and passed: —Otaki Maori Hack Racing Club Autumn Meeting, May 24 and 25, stakes £855, Shannon Hack Racing Club, April 13, stakes £4l. The following jockeys were voted a donation from the Relief Fund : J. Hercock £5, ior injuries sustained at the Hutt Spring Meeting while riding Roseleaf in the hack race; James Russell £3, for injuries received at the Tara’ahiCarterton Meeting on November 9 An appeal by W. Corlett against the decision of the Taratahi-Carterton Racing Club, depriving him of the stakes in the Prince of Wales Handicap on the 9th Novembey, was considered, but it on’y being a question of fac», the decision of the local stewards was final, and therefore the Metropolitan Club could not interfere. A letter was read from Sir George Clifford in reference to the congested state of the unpaid forfeit lis; it. was decided that the matter was one which should be dealt with by the next conference. It was resolved to invite His Excellency the Governor to the Summer Meeting of the Club, and should he accept the invitation the stewards w ill entertain him at luncheon. The consideration of'he question of licensing bookmakers at the coming Summer Meeting was postponed till the special meeting to be held on Thursday next.
