NOTES.
After reading the performances of the Australian horse Fritz at Bathurst when he lost a galloper in a mile on a loose course and casting the mile behind in 2min 18sec, an American writer states “there can be no doubt that he is a real flyer.” According to news by the last American mail Star Pointer is at Charter Oak Park, having arrived from Baltimore. He worked the easiest sort of a mile at the latter place recently in 2.9, and the spectators were so favourably impressed they almost unanimously agreed that he could have knocked the nine seconds off had it been asked of him. John R. Gentry recently worked the last quarter at Charter Oak in 30. t secs to a highwheel sulky. When the American mail left it was confidently anticipated that on July 5 John R. Gentry would break all previous mile records, and do the distance inside of two minutes. Our Christchurch correspondent wires : — At Tattersall’s on Saturday James Martin’s trotting horses were submitted for sale by auction. Schoolgirl was bought by Mr A White, of Roxburgh, for £3O.
