THE HAWKE’S BAY HOUNDS.

The third meet of the season of the Hawke s Bay Hounds was fixed for Saturday, the 10th inst., at “Tayford,” Hastings, the property of Mr Hamilton Russell. The weather was glorious, the country perfect for hunting, and the attendance of sportsmen very fair. The hounds threw •off close to the house in which Captain Russell used to live, and a run of about seven miles ended on the main road beyond Captain Hill’s. Amongst, those present were Mrs. Sunderland on Lulu, Miss Nelson on Eversley, Miss Ormond on Otairi, Messrs. Sunderland (Master) on Warrita, W. Jackson (Huntsman) on Repo, Amunds (Whip) on Barbarossa, Gt. P. Donnell v on Canard, Woolley on Banjo, J. McNiven on a bay mount, Gelson on Satanella, Mackie on All Over, H. Hassall on Waikato, W. Edwards on Grey Memos, Harold Russell on Te Whetu, L. Cottle on Puketoi, A. C. Loughnan on Glengarrie, Hamilton Russell on Mark Twain, J. Wilson on Salamander, and Dr. Nairn on Harkaway. Mr Edwards had a wonderful recovery after getting entangled in a wire fence. There is a fact in connection with these hunts which becomes more and more evident at each meet, namely, that hounds used to hunting hares are not keen on a drag, and it would greatly add to the sport if a separate pack were kept for each. It is stated that Mr H. Hassell, well-known in the hunting field., has taken an appointment as huntsman to the Hawera Hunt Club. His friends wish him «verv success.
